Default Another Vag Com thread

Just got my ebay OBD II wire today for $8 in the mail. I was skeptical about it but after a few try outs, it worked!

I scaned the car and so far I only got one fault code, but after scaning the ABS module it stoped and says I need to register my version of Vag-com. I thought that even with the free version you could scan the entire car for codes?

After this I tried to re-code the trans I have a 2000 2.8 btw, to 01032, but it wouldn't take. I was able to change the settings for the car to be able to open all the windows with the remote. My question is, is there a special workshop code along with the softcode i need to change for the trans? Also do i really need to register or buy the license to be able to scan the entire car?

Let me see if I understand, you want to readcodes, change codes, scan the entire car, and whatever else with the free version? Maybe you should just BUY THEFREAKING SOFTWARE!!! Personally, I have no idea what the free version can/can't do, I simply bought the full version and it's great.

(BTW, I willing to admit this message is a little strong, but as a software developer, this kinda thing can make me angry)[:@].....

Yes, I am considering buying the software. I first decided to just buy a wire from ebay and test it out, now I have heard some mixed reviews that there are some things you can and can't do, I would simply like to know if these problems i am having are faults of the sofware (free version) or the wire. Since I was able to re code the central locks but not the transmission.

Ah yes, Vag. Well worth the 200 bucks for the full version. I have 409.2 with a cheap Ebay cable and it works just fine.
Likely one of the best investments I've made for the two babies under my care. Vag-Com, a torque wrench, and a set of socketed allen keys....and the (Audi) world is your oyster.

I'm using v 311 (serial) with an adaptor and an non Ross-Tech cable on my lap top. All I need is codes and the ability to reset. It works great.

Moving to 409 and USB so I can eliminate the adaptor would be OK -- Re-programming would be interesting but probably not needed.
