ATF Vs Pentosin/AUdi ATF

Question ATF Vs Pentosin/AUdi ATF

I have a 2001 A6 4.2L and i want to change the ATF and the filter. The ATF recommended for this tranny is Audi Part number G052162A2 but the Mobil 1 synthetic is equivalent to the following part numbers: G 052 025-A2, G 052 162-A1. Does anyone know what is the difference between the A1 and A2 and if the Mobil ATF is ok. Thank you

I'm not sure what transmission the 4.2 uses, but if it is just a beefier version than what is used in the 2.8/2.7 than mobile 1 is just fine. The 5hp19 tranny used in my 2.8l is also used in our 3 series and people on the BMW forums highly recommend Mobile 1 atf.

But just buy oem and be done with it. The cost can't be that much more.

diff between A1 and A2 is the size of the container.

Mobil 1 is fine, however I recommend doing the change again in about 2k miles to get more of the old oil out.

I have heard that the Mobil 1 works fine but may have different thermal expansion properties and at a different temps. Which could be a problem when filling it as instructed by the manual. I haven't used it though, I was ascared, so I went with Pentosin. Let us know how it works out when you refill it.

I was scared just like you and used Pentosin, but I came to find out that Pentosin is not the OEM either. The factory uses Esso. Also what I came to find out is that Mobil 1 full synthetic ATF meets ZF LT71141, which is the requirement for Esso LT71141.

and Mobil1 Multi-Vehicle ATF is much cheaper than Pentosin, too. AutoZone carries it for about $7/quart.

Thank you all for replying to this request. I found out today that the Mobil Synthetic Multi Trans Fluid is compatibe with the OEM, it is $7.99 per litre. I purchased some and I will be replacing the fluid and filter after I find out what to do with my code P0730 and the limp mode the tranny is in.

I like mobil 1 use it for engine oil.

How does the mobil 1 ATF expand? The same? Any problems filling the trany back up? can you mix it with the fluid that is in there ESSO or Pentosin?

More than saving money it is available everywhere. If you need OEM you have to go to Audi and Holy crap they have no mercy what so ever.

Esso LT71141 is listed in ZF TE-ML 11B (passenger) and ZF TE-ML 14C (commercial) which is a Dextron IIE/III fully Synthetic fluid.

Esso is Exxon Mobil: ESSO ATF LT 71141- EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION, FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA/USA

Mobil 1 Synth ATF is approved under the tougher 'commercial use' 14B: MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC ATF - EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION, FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA/USA

And, VALVOLINE SYNPOWER ATF - is an approved fluid under 14B ...

Pentosin does not show up under 14B!! But Esso LT1141 which is what we want to match, does!

So, we are paying a premium for a fluid that does NOT match the same specs for longevity and shear as the original fluid. Given this, I would choose the Mobil 1 over Pentosin since it IS approved for the tougher 14B commercial use.

(last on the list - Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Blend ATF - Warren Oil Co)
