Default Audi 4.2 Oil Pan 28 hour labor????

I have 08 Audi 4.2 fsi. One mechanic lied to me that my oil pan was leaking and he wanted to charge 28 hour for labor. I took it to other mechanic and we both saw there was no leak.
I checked with other mechanics and they really charge 28 hours to replace the oil pan and gasket on those engines in an a6.

Can anybody tell me why does it take this long to change a oil pan gasket?
I looked at the oil pan and there is some pipe covering it but i dont think removing the pipe woul take that long.
Any ideas???

Is there a better way...shorter route...less expensive option on how to proceed to change the oil pan gasket on the 4.2?

I'm not terribly familiar with the 4.2 setup, but I believe the entire subframe must be dropped in order for the pan to be removed. Can anyone else confirm this?

28 hours though? That's a lot of time for a somewhat experienced mechanic to tackle the job.

My 01 with 4.2 would be really easy to change. Probably take me 1-2 hour. 30 min finding my tools and drink two beers

There are 2 oil pan gaskets on these engines a upper & lower. Depending on what vehicle the engine is in (you did not mention what model) , a upper gasket would be between 6 & 15 hours.
Stay away from the shop that quoted you 28 hours.

Default Lower oil pan

I got quoted 3 hours after the 28hr book quote and it's a silicon replacement not a gasket Audi charges 70$ish for a diagnostic. I'll do a DIY when I am done.
Cheers!

Default Did you have any success?

Hi I have an 2008 Audi q7 4.2 and I just wanted to know if you had any success of removing the oil pan and if so what were the steps taken. Any help would be much appreciated.
