Default audi a6 2001 No display

The center display is blank when I put the car in the drive.. only able to see
P R N D 1 2 3

Air bag light is on as well... anyone knows what might be wrong... someone told me to buy vagcom but not sure what it is and where i can buy it from ??? please help

on the bottom of your wiper stalk, press and hold the button, see if that turns the display on.

I was always wondering that are those for.... i was playing with them the other day trying to see what are they for... that may be the problem...

the bottom one turns the display on or off and the ones on the end/side cycle through the screens.

That bottom button also resets the average mpg, average mph, and elapsed driving time if you hold it in. Otherwise if you just tap the button it turns off the center panel in your dash. Sometimes handy for night driving.

thanks... the display issue got resolved ... but display is so bleak i cant tell what it actually displayed there other than the outside temp.... the side button does cycle through the screen but i cant see read what it displays... how hard it is to fix this and is it worth it...

This is a common issue with our cars. You can either resolder the display (not simple), send it in for a repair (+/- $200), or Audi replace your cluster ($$$). Do a search on the forum.

I'm gonna piggy-back onto this thread. My display works, but the lettering is so distorted that it's to the point of unreadable. I can only make out the PRND stuff at the bottom. Any ideas?
