Default Audi A6 C7 (4G) Black matte full wrap DIY

I've been reading and watching youtube videos about car wrapping for a few months during the first part of this year.
We have purchased a 2012 A6 Avant in June and I immediately did a brake caliper rebuild and put on the nice brand new 20" AXXION AX5 wheels.
After that, I decided I'd try to wrap the whole car in black matte vinyl.

Initially I got some Chinese wrap from eBay... Either the thing simply wasn't up to the task or I was not capable to do the job properly.

After trying to wrap the bonnet 6 times (that's right, SIX times!) I was thinking "This is much harder than I thought. What am I doing wrong???"

As a DIYer I've successfully completed a certain number of jobs in various areas and I know that, if it can be done, I can do it and I can do it right so I decided not to give up. I purchased some high quality (at least according to my readings and the youtube videos) wrap vinyl and, once I started to work with this new product I realized it wasn't me, it was the first vinyl that was impossible to work with.

The first vinyl I tried was from the UK eBay seller classictrading-uk and I strongly suggest anyone to stay away from that product (black matte, can't say anything about the other products he's selling because I didn't use them). The seller treated this in a fair manner by offering a refund for whatever I had left. I've put back in the original package whatever I had left from the roll just to find out that to ship it from Sweden to the UK would've costed me more than whatever I was going to be refunded. Obviously I decided to keep the damn thing... The kids are practicing/having fun with it now...

The second product I purchased -- and managed to wrap my whole car with -- is Avery Dennison SW 900 Supreme Wrapping Film

Considering the fact that I haven't wrapped anything in my life before and looking at the final result I guess what I was reading about this product online is true.

I also used another cheap carbon fiber vinyl (which I bought at Biltema, a well known store in Sweden) and used it on the side sills. I won't be surprised if that one will give up first but we'll see...

I should mention that I am not affiliated in any way with any vinyl producer out there.

Anyway, here are some pictures I took while I was wrapping my A6 C7.

This is how the car was looking before I started the wrap job:

Alright... had to remove these because of the 30 images limit of which I wasn't aware until I tried to post this.

Some pictures from the prep process (bumpers, lights, handles off...):

Again, taking these pictures off since they only show an Audi a6 with the bumpers, lights, etc. removed

Caterpillar tracks like marks on the first vinyl I used. I had these (fading out a bit on each coil) on the very first 3-5 meters of material out of the 30m roll.

The material was simply too brittle and couldn't be re-seated (it's actually impossible to re-seat that vinyl as it simply rips apart) although the product specs on eBay clearly stated the opposite.

I came up with an idea to help me stretch the vinyl so that I can work it up by myself. I got four small fishing rods and stuck them in a piece of wood after drilling one hole for each rod. The "spider" as we called it did the job actually.

Things didn't go too well with the cheap Biltema carbon vinyl...

...but I just didn't give up.

Managed to wrap the front bumper using the Avery vinyl. Once I started to work with that material I realized I'll complete this project no problem. If you look carefully at this picture, the lower part of the front bumper is wrapped in carbon fiber from which about 5 mm are visible from above. I just thought it'd give the bumper a nice detail. And it did

Things started to move on...

And at this point we actually got an idea about how the car is going to look like once it'll be fully wrapped.

I moved on to the mirrors. I used Avery carbon fiber (which looks quite similar to the Biltema vinyl in the pictures but it's totally different, trust me ;-)

And then I took care of the handles. I decided to use the Biltema product again here. Will see... Over the carbon vinyl I've put on some chrome covers which I purchased on eBay. We think they look good...

And here is the final product. Black matte wrapped Audi A6 C7 with carbon fiber details.

This car wrap has been completed in eight days at the end of September 2017. I've been working by myself for about 10 hours/day and this was my very first wrap.

And here is another wrap I made recently. This time it was an 1997 Audi S8, 6-speed manual:
