Default audi A6 Key problems

hey everyone... new to the forum! just wondering if anyone can help me with my keyless entry problem...

i changed the batteries in my remote thinking it would fix it but still doesn't work... i was able to change the battery out before and have the key working afterwords... well here is some info that i can provide:

-no buttons work AT ALL
-key still locks and unlocks doors and stil lstarts car
-when i lock the car using the key, parking lights dont flash but car still honks letting you know that the alrm is armed
-alarm still works when it is "tripped" and stil lcan be disarmed by lockign and unlocking the car using the key

i hope someone here can shed some light on my situation and save me a couple hundred bucks... thanks again guys!

You have to re-sync the remote to the car. this is probably not the most efficient method but I know it works.

Lock the car with the key and then press lock button on the remote
Unlock the car with the key and then press the unlock button on the remote
Do this with the key in the drivers door and don't remove it until done.

Jeff

Welcome to the forums. By the way what year, engine, mileage is on your car? I assume you have a 98-04.

I don't know if it works with cars that have the immobilizer. I think 02+ have the immobilizer which I always forget about since my 00 does not have it.

but it is worth a try. Takes all of 10 secs.

To reprogram the remote on a key you need a second functional key.
The procedure is described in your owners manual.

There are a plenty of discussions on the forum as well!

Having just one key is proven recipe for disaster!!!

just read somewhere (sorry i forgot where) that the part number you need to buy should match the "part number" thats on the alarm sticker thats on the back side window of the car... funny thing is, the number on my alarm clicker doesn't match the sticker on the window, but it used to work on my car... i really hate only having one key...

can anyone give me any info on buying a key off of ebay??? i've seen some with new transponder ships and new blades but i need info on which one to get... thanks again!
