Question Audi A6 Nav Software

I have a factory GPS nav unit in my 2008 Audi A6. However, it appears the search capability of the unit is limited. For example, there is no category to search for just shopping. There is a shopping center category which gives you malls, strip shopping centers, etc, but not a shopping category that allows you to search for shopping and a specific store. Is this a limitation of the hardware or do I have old mapping software? If the mapping software is old, where can I purchase updated software cheaper than at the Navteq store?

How can I update navigation software from 2006 A6 to 2008 or newer because the 2006 is very limited. Is this possible?

Why stop at 2008? You can buy the 2010 navigation software at Navteq's website. The nav dvd player is in the trunk. Just pop out the old dvd and pop in the new dvd. It will auto load and you will be good to go in a minute or so.

FYI. I contacted Navteq to upgrade my 2006 A6 nav and was informed Audi North America discontinued using Navteq as a supplier. The website will only route you to a dealer website search.

Default navigation and Google maps

Good Afternoon,

I have a 2012 Sedan 4 door 3.0l V6 FI Dohc 24 V Quattro Premium that doesn't appear to have any navigaiton or google mapping capability but I have a chip that came within the mapping package. Is the chip all that I need for the system to become functional. It is a mini chip.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Nav and Google maps are two different things. If you have a NAV button you have NAV. Google maps requires a data package. It's free for 6 months after buying the vehicle new, after that you have to purchase the data through a service provider like AT&T or Verizon.

+1 for Garmin. Yeah, you have to deal with a power cord but it is so simple to upgrade software OR, worst case, buy a whole new unit for less than a buck and a half. Plus you can move them between cars. I think in-vehicle navi is a complete waste of money and a rip-off. I know this is not helpful, but let me vent, ok.
