Default Audi A6 versus BMW 5 series

HI,

I'm new here. I'm trying to decide between a Audi A6 and a BMW 5 series. Just would like to hear from Audi users out there why choose a Audi A6 over a BMW 5 series. What area is an A6 better than a 5 series?

Both are great cars. BMW is more popular in my country. But I'm leaning towards the Audi for pure looks and cool factor.

Thanks in advance !

I have both an A6 and a BMW 540i. I love both cars. In my opinion the Audi is more confortable than the Bimmer, of course I have the sport package in my Bimmer.

The A6 is more prone to oil leaks than my 540i. However, the 5 series from 97-03 have cooling system problems that need addressing every 60k miles or so.

As far as power, my 540i has got plenty...and if stock isn't enough for you, you can always get it Dinand out. I have an A6 with 2.8L but the 2.7 Turbo has got nice power as well.

The Audi has better cup holders. The A6 has better gas mileage. The A6 has a better sound system as well.

The Bimmer corners very well...almost hugging the road. The commercial says it all about BMW: "it's the ultimate driving experience".

Aesthetically I think the 5-series look better than the A6 but the A6 has a unique look to it that makes it sexy as well.

There are pros and cons to both vehicles in my opinion but I love both so much that I had to just get me one of each

Ok so i have a 99 a6 2.8 quattro and i love it to death, i honestly have never had such a great car, i bought it from a dealership and paid almost a grand too much but it was worth it, mines got 173k miles and it still runs like a dream. i bought with a one owner who was a doctor and had all of it serviced at audi dealers, if your lookin for the audi make sure its got a good history for sure. what ive done to mine is ive tried making it look like a 02+ i got the led tails for it, rs6 spoiler, s-line rims im getting soon, 04 headlights, and some stuff on the inside... its cool, ive taken really good care of it and its just treating me really really well. i have a friend that has all bmws in his driveway, hes got 2 5 series, a 97 528 and a 03 530i and hes also got a 02 745i and his car is a 94 325i i personally dont like the looks of the bmw vs the audi, the audi looks newer and feels newer. but there all great cars. good luck with whatever you chose.

In the Audi, you can get a V-8 with all wheel drive. In the BMW, you cannot.

had to make the same decision a couple months ago between 528 and a6 2.8, the a6 is roomier and more comfortable, but yea the BMW did handle better, I choose the comfort. Just felt better when I was inside the a6.

you can not easily mod a 4.2 into an RS6, as far as the topic goes, I think the 5 series looks better off the lot, but the A6 has a mountain of esthetic potential, as far as modding goes a 2.7t will give you best bang for buck if big HP is what your after. I love my A6 and wouldn't trade it for the world

I think you are asking too vague a question or not giving enough info..
It depends on a lot of things: what kind of driver are you? what are yuo looking for in the next car? will yuo want to mod? where do you live (rain? snow? mostly dry???) do you really want or need AWD... Which 5 series and A6 models are yuo looking at and comparing? that's a big difference....
From a looks standpoint, it is really a metter of taste so I will spare yuo my opnions.
In a nutshell wihtout knowing the above...
The 5 series typically are lighter, have better suspension and handling and their engines are better/cars quickers at equal models I.e. 528 to A6 2.8 or 3.0... V8 to V8....
So the 5 series will be a notch quicker and handle better, be sportier overall..
The A6 will be mroe comfortable, and ahve the best interior....
But mods chnage everything... alson form looking at our local Euro club, guys with 5 series seems to have less problems with their cars than the A6 owners on the forums.
I am not even inckluding M5s and Rs6 here.... and these are high level comments...
