We have an audi a6 wagon 2.8L Just replaced a burned out alternator last year. Only last week (7 months later) the battery light comes on and the car wont start. Turns out the new alternator is burned aswell.

Would anyone suggest would i need a new alternator or is there another issue the audi has?

P.S the part was bought from ebay.

 

Was the replacement part a used alternator, was it new and genuine Audi, or was it an aftermarket one? I have read several threads on here of people using cheaper aftermarket ones and they tend to foul things up or go dead, as in your case.

 

The stock alternator on my A6 lasted 225K miles. I replaced it with a Duralast 120A unit from AutoZone, and got to take advantage of the lifetime warranty just 70K miles later. Somewhere there's an Audi engineer laughing every time I have to put the car in the service position just to change the alternator.
