Default Audi Life and Issues

Hi,
I am pretty new to Audi world. I am tring to upgrade from my honda Accord to Audi A6 4.2 . I am not very familier with the German cars. Can someone give me certain good pointer where I can look for A6 related buying tip and the most common problems in Audi. For instantce whats the life of Audi in miles. I am getting an A6 75K 2001 model. Will the car be good for another 100K or so and how is the resale of Audi, what will residual value of the car after another 30K i.e. 105K? I am getting this car for around 20K.
Also what are the most common concern areas on an Audi A6?
-Thanks
Sam

check Edmunds.com for info. Basically if you are willing to put money into the car when it needs it an Audi will last you a long time.

Personally, I think $20k is too much for a 2001 with 75k. Just looking at Autotrader real fast, there are a ton of 01's with under 75k for well under $20k. Basically the 4.2 motor is bullet proof. The problems people seem to have are just like most other cars, CV boots/ joints, alternator, timing chain (scheduled maintenance with most foreign cars). I had an A4 before my A6 and those were the only things I had go wrong in 3 years. It was the only car I'd ever driven that had over 100k and still felt brand new. I love Audi's and German cars in general. They're more fun to drive than Japanese cars, but may cost a little more to maintain. Do a search, there was a thread not too long ago talking about German vs. Japanese cars.

From what I've read, residual (resale) value for Audi is not a good as it is for BMW. On the other hand, I took a hard look at a 2003 330i before I bought my A6 and thought it was overpriced and would have neededrims/winter tires to be safe with RWD in the winter. I found the A6 less thana week later in the color I preferred, a terrific setup for winter driving, plus a spare set of rims/tires for about $5k less.

Don't buy a car expecting to make money. Buy it either to enjoy or as transportation -maybe both.

Make sureyour A6 has been regularly maintained with all necessary service performed, including timing belt. And you follow the maintenance schedule as well. If you don't abuse it, it should last a long time with basic replacement of parts that normally wear out.
