Hey guys, may be in the wrong forum, but what the hell. Thinking about getting audi or bmw. So wich one is faster, more powerfull, better handling if u go stock for stock, a6 2.7tt, a6 4.2 v8 or bmw 540i sport (note, year 1998 trouhg 2003). thanx for any input!

 

the 540 is faster. however you know none of those cars is a performance car.

 

540I>A6 4.2> A6 2.7 stock
but with $600 you get another 70hp and 120lbs tq on the 2.7 on 93 oct chips from APR or GIAC.
The 540 has an awesome engine, is lighter on its feets, and feels sportier. The Audi has the Quattro, looks better and has a better interior. it is a classy ride

 

I woulda got a BMW 5 but I was about 3k short. Should have waited as I could now have afforded one of the new 545's

true ture...I came form the BMW seen. but if you are looking into performance potential go with the 2.7T go stage 3+ and you will give your 03 mustang a run for its money

 

bmws are overpriced and arent a good value for thier money especially in thier later years ... audis will hold up if you treat them right ... the new rs6 is faster then the m5

 

Is the question which is faster, a 2.7 liter A6 or a 4.0 liter BMW, or a 4.2 liter A6 or that 4.0 liter BMW. A quick Google shows the 540 at 3800 lbs and turning 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. That will beat a stock A6 2.7T which runs 6.5 seconds....maybe a little quicker with a stick. Chip it from 250 to 318 hp, you might get closer to 6 seconds. The problem is the extra weight of the quattro and the mechanical inefficiency of AWD. So on a nice day, the BMW wins.

On a snowy nightmare of aroad (like I have in MI and you have in MN), the 540 will be in a ditch while the A6 pulls it's way up the road. RWD in an overpowered BMW, even with traction contol, is no match for the same on an AWD.

The BMW doesn't depreciate as fast as the A6, but unless you're buying new, that makes the A6 a better bargain. I don't think either one has an advantage in repairs - they can both cost a lot of money to repair.

What kind of answer did you expect on the Audi forum?

But i thought that audis quatro is actualy a huge advantage over rwd carsand that turboed engine got better advantage over naturaly asperated as far is far moreadvanced tunning options and more power as an outcome. Plus a realy like the sound of sppoling turbos. Ok, now, what if i throw some cash into 2.7tt......will it be more for my money than bmw?

 

Im not looking to have something extremly crazy, just some what sporty sedan, with some rumble udner the hood, its going to be daily beater. P.S. you will need much more than stage 3 to run my cobra..... 11.9 at 1/4 with regular street tires. 11.9 is what, stage 5? Anyway thanx for the input bro!
