I took off my alternator figuring to replace it whaile I had the whole fron end off to save having to do it later when I found what I now know is an Aux water pump that was mounted just to the right of the alternator. Inspedction of the wires showed there has been some arcing going on and pins on the pump and the socket on the plug are both somewhat damaged. First, how important is this pump? second does anyone know of a good source for wiring. I did find one but they wanted $82 for the little 36" wire, the pump was $35. Can the plugs be purchased and then installed on existing wires?

I do. The auxilary water pump is mostly useless. It only serves as an aftercooler that runs after the motor is shut down and it cools until the T-stat closes or a time delay not sure which. The plug ends can be purchased and an Audi dealer for around $7 with the wires that go in it costing about 15.
