Angry blank key question?!?!?!

i bought a blank key to get it cut when i take my car to the dealership for timing belt service and i bought this key on ebay but then when i emailed my dealership about the pricing for getting a key cut
they said they couldnt do anything bcus they have to order a blank key form the factory and have them cut there
has anyone heard of this i dont see why i couldnt have them send my key in to get it cut there whats the differenace

and then is there anywhere else besides the factory that cuts audi keys or probly specifially audi only

thanks

To have a key cut on the spot => one has to have an original key.
Do you have one?

If you have=> and your audi dealer has no tools to cut the key:
Try any VW dealers or any locksmith.

If you do not have any original key - the audi dealer will cut or order a key after your VIN.
-----------
Once yo have the ability to unlock the doors you have to think about remote and immobilizer.

As you have not specified your car there is no way to help you further.

Do you home work and search the forum- this topic is overused as the oil topic and ATF...

I bought 2 blank blades on eBay and took them to a real locksmith (not you OSH or LOWES store where a clueless clerk just pushes a button on an automated machine) and I got a nice set of duplicates! Simple as that!

I needed a second key for my 97 Avant so I went to the local Audi dealer. It took him 6 tries before he got one that worked. He used 4 blank keys -- I was very happy I had the dealer do it. If I had used an EBay blank it would have taken weeks to get one that worked. And it only cost me $75.00 LOL

Imagine if you had your dealer replacing the TB for you and it took him 6 tries! LOL
Seriously, a good locksmith will have the right machine and will do it right the first time, but it took me 3 visits at 3 differnet locksmiths before I found one with the right stuff.

Dealer did mine for 7.00 usd and about 10 mins. They also made me a generic key like normal cars for 11.00.

I had an oem blank switchblade and also gave them the original key.

Seems odd to me that the dealer is unable to cut keys. My local dealer will not cut generic ebay blanks, only oem ones, said the cheap metal in the ebay ones will damage their machine. Who knows if that is BS or not.
