Default Brake wear sensor wire problem

Hey guys,
So, my brake wear indicator came on one day, and I kinda ignored it for awhile, because I knew the brakes were new. Finally got around to pulling the front wheels, and found that one of the wires coming off the brake pads was not secured correctly, and was rubbing on the inside of the wheel, and wore through the insulation. I taped it up, and secured it correctly, but the brake warning is still on. How's this system work? Does it close a circut to ground when the pads are worn?
Thanks for any help,
Gary

Brake pad warning light circuit is basically a loop circuit. The light turns on when the wire gets disconnected. If you want to rig it permanently, just connect the two wires and you are good.

Cool, thanks, now I know what to look for. The wires didn't look broken, just the insulation worn off, but I'll inspect again, see if I can find the break.

LOL I save the old connectors from the pads when I do the brakes so I can solder the ends together and plug it in if I have a problem.

It has to be a break in the circuit someplace. If not at the pad it has to be someplace else.

Perhaps you should check the pads to see if they are not worn? I know you said the pads are new, but how new?

Oh, like 5000 miles ago new :-) And I did check, there's LOTS of meat left.

Did you check the inside and outside pad. If the caliper is hung up they might not wear evenly
