Putting rear brakes on my 01 A6...Is there anything I need to be aware of? Is there any signals, etc that I need to look for?

the rears are as easy as the fronts, but unlike the fronts you need the special tool for compressing (while turning) the brake piston. search the forum for tool details.

Audi's are not the only vehicle to requirethe pistons be turned when pushed in, so most shops have the tool. A smart fella can do it with a pair of channel locks and a regular piston retractor if he is careful.

But you can get a cheep one on Ebay for around $20 that will work ..

Brake noise?

Depends upon what noise they make. If they are worn out it could be metal against metal grinding. (BAD) If it is squeal you might need a bit of the spry on stuff that goes between the pad and piston to quiet them down.

Iseldom have trouble with brake noise whileusing standard pads and rotors - the only thing was squeal and that was an EZ fix.
