break job questions
OK so I am planning to change the front breaks on my 2000 A6 2.7T. The shopping list is as follows
Stock Audi/VW rotors ( decided that slotted, drilled or slotted and drilled rotors were not worth it)
Hawk High Performance Street pads
Super blue break fluid
My problem is that I dont know which hawk HPS pads to buy, I want to make sure I maintain the function of the break ware sensors, secondly were there different types of connector used on our cars? square, round, round square or square round?
Also I am nearly certain my car has 16.7mm offsets but can someone confirm
also how much break fluid will I need?
My main aim here is a setup that will reduce the chance of the rotors warping

I have the same make and model. You have to buy the 8 pad set that has the connectors built in if you want to keep that function.
I wouldn't use any other thing other than an Audi/VW approved fluid and I would have the system flushed. YOu are suppose to do that every 2 years or so. It's not hard to change the pads and rotors on the 2.7.

The only sure way to tell is to take the front wheel off and take a look. You can tell whether you have 2 pad ATE calipers or 4 pad calipers. Also at the time, you can measure the offset.
Other option is to go ask a dealer with your VIN to tell you exactly what you have.

I called the dealer with the VIN and he said that I had 4 pad calipers, he did not know what offset I have so I am going to have to take the wheel off for that. I am assuming that they will be 16MM offsets.

If you are changing the fluid with the same color (clear or gold) get 3 liters. If you change colors and use blue dyed fluid from Blauparts.com you can get away with 2 or less because you will be able to see the new fluid as it bleeds out. I used blue the last time and it worked out better.
Remember to prep your fender and work clean because the fluid will eat your paint and tires etc.
