Default burnt smell

Hey fellas,

My wife's A6 produces a burnt smell after the car is parked in the garage. I popped the hood but didn't notice anything obvious. However, she did tell me that one day while she was driving she smelled the same burnt smell and saw smoke coming up from the passenger side of the hood closer to the firewall.
Could this be the cabin filter? Has anyone experienced this before?

Hey man, its the valve cover gasket. i had the exact same problem i my 2000 2.8q and it cost about 320 to be fixed at my college station , texas indy shop. its a very very common problem, however its no fun to fix nor is it to have to turn the recycle button on the air condition for a month. Good luck on it.

Either that or it is a belt, i had this problem with my Asuna, and the smell is horrible.

Does anyone have a good DIY for replacing the valve cover gaskets on a 98 Quattro 2.8L? Also, is it a hard job to do?

hey there is a diy in the diy forum at the top of the forums page. its sort of hard because there are so many screws you have to deal with and you have to remove the spark plugs and such
