Can I replace my fuel pump when the tank is 3/4 full?
My 2001 A6 2.7 Quattro broke down in the car park of the local Top Foods. It looks like it's the fuel pump that's failed (Fuel pump relay is coming on, no noise at all from the pump itself, although there is power).
Problem is that the car is 3/4 full of fuel, and I'm going to have to fix it in the car park... Is it possible to replace the pump with that much fuel in there? If I absolutely have to siphon gas out, what's the least I'd need to do?
Many Thanks (and Happy Turkey Day)!

Maybe, maybe not. If you plan on doing it make sure the car is on a level surface and crack the cover under the rear seat. If its 3/4 full, its gonna be pretty close to the top of the tank. You will need to get some chemical gloves that go up to your elbow for protection, you can get those at the Home Depot or something. I would still try to siphon out a couple gallons, because if its still too full it will spill out into the car the second you crack the access hatch.
