Default Can I use 5w-40 Royal Purple instead?

I have a 2000 2.8 and I think the recommended is 0w-40. But I was wondering if it would cause a problem in the long run for my engine if I use Royal Purple's 5w-40?

Thanks!

shouldn't be a problem in the summer. I run Ow-40 because of the cam tensioners I hate that noise so I want the thinest oil on cold start-up.

Royal Purple is not listed as meeting any of the Audi standards VW 502 00, VW 505 01, and 504 00/507 00. I say skip it and go with an oil that meets at least one of the standards.

$ 22....It beats ordering all that "fancy" $ 38-45 oil online to pay for merchants' vacation on Riviera
