Default the car rolls in park.

On occasion, my 96' A6 decides to roll down my entire driveway when its in park.
My driveway is almost flat, and it doesn't happen all the time,
but when it does, it will roll until it reaches an incline to stop it.

Anybody have any ideas?

also - I need to install new front brakes.
Do I need to purchase a certain kind with wires to hook up to the brake pad sensor?

Theres is a mechanical lock inside the trans when the vehicle is shifted to park. Not sure exactly whats wrong with it but repair would most likely require trans disassembly. Unless the cable is out of adjustment and the trans isnt going all the way to park something inside the trans is damaged. As for the brakes, you would need pads with wires if the vehicle is eequiped with brake pad wear indicators, but i dont think the older a6's had those.

Well, here's a suggestion: ALWAYS use the parking brake! You shouldn't put any strain on the parking gear at all.

As for front brakes, you need to determine which type of wire hook up it has for the brake pad wear sensor. It is either oval shaped, or retangular if I remember. Depends on the year, etc...
