Default CD Changer Replacement

I have an 98 A6 Quattro and the cd changer will not play cds anymore. I think the laser is dead and the unit needs to be replaced. I tried to clean the cd changer with a cd cleaner and that worked for a few weeks, now all the thing will do is cycle through the cds and just give the error code ERR01. My question is what cd changer can I install that will work with the oem stereo? The cd changer is the one in the trunk with the round connector.

Is there a way to get a newer cd changer and get an adapter for it to work with the concert radio?

I bought a used changer off of e-bay. Popped right in. You could also try Shokan. I would argue to stick with a good used unit to minimize the installation headaches.

Good luck!

Does the phatbox just replace the cd changer?
I still want to know if I can change the head unit and still use the bose speakers?

yup, you might need an adapter cable for the phatbox (+$20) .. then you browse/play the phatbox like it was a huge disc changer AND it pronounces the artists/albums , pretty cool imo

I am not having much luck finding a phatbox. Is there way to just put a new head unit in the dash with a single cd, and have that unit use all of the bose speakers in the car?
