Default Check engine light again!!

Hello Everyone, just after getting my A6 '98 from the dealer after the left tie rod replacement my Check Engine light went on, supicious is that it happened right after I took it from the dealer :-). If I bing the car back they will charge me 100 bucks or so for resetting it with no warranty the light won't go on again couple of days after. The car runs fine, ones in a while it will hessitate while searching for idle.
Is the CEL something Audi dealer is using to bring customers back to the shop??

Eh how can you tell him to not worry about a CEL?!!! The dealer could not set the CEL to go off. It is going off because something is not right with the engine. Jacekstefankowski, take the car back to the dealer if their last service was related to the engine. You can also go to autozone and have them scan the car for the fault code that is causing the CEL.

I dunno Jest.
But I have an 03 A4 and my CEL is always on.
When I go to the dealer , they get it off for a week or two .. then its back.
But I see nothing wrong with the car. It runs fine , and they say its just codes.

I would hope that you at least vag-com your car every week or so to make sure it isn't throwing out any major codes.

Sounds like it is time for a new dealer. CEL codes are a serious matter. Most of them refer to emissions problems. That means your engine could be running rich/lean or any various other problem. Driving with a CEL on all the time is a bad bad thing. Any dealer that tells you a CEL is OK to run on is full of bull. Next time you get a CEL do me a favor and get it scanned at autozone. Then bring the code back and post it.

The light went off again, but I'm sure it will come back on again soon. I will try to scan engine at Autozone before it goes on and after to verify what is the problem. I will post the findings hoping that one of you will save me a trip to Audi Stealer.
What is vag-com, any special tool to scan the engine?
Thank you all for your help.
Jacek
