Just picked up my 2000 2.7T with 6 spd. Manual Tranny from a towing company. It was towed on a flat bed tranny and of course the towing company denies responsibility. When I am in gear and I step on the gas, RPM's fly up 500 to 1000 above what they should be with only slight acceleration. Eventually, it evens itself out, but it will do it in almost any gear, especially 2nd and 3rd though. I had a new tranny put in a year ago. Is this a clutch problem, or is it the tranny because the clutch is fully engaged? Thanks for the help...

How does the clutch pedal feel? Does it let out higher than normal. Can't see how a tow could cause this problem. Unless, thedriver smoked the clutch. They use the winch to load it. Not drive it on. You would know best, were you there when the car was loaded?

Sounds like a clutch to me but have to drive it.

There is noting in a manual transmission that slips --- If you get slippage it has to be the clutch..
I agree with Coors - Probably the clutch.. but might be sticking linkage

Did you change the clutch when you changed the transmission?

Unfortunately, I did not change the clutch when I did the tranny. I had 55k on it when I did the repair, now I'm at 68k. The clutch feels fine, the problem occurs when it is fully engaged. I will be taking it to a mechanic and post the result when I find out the exact problem. Any other ideas would be helpful. Thanks for the input!

My clutch went about 20k miles ago and that is exactly the symptom. Step on the gas medium-hard, and it revs way up but doesn't move much faster. If you accelerate real lightly, it works.
