Default Code po741

I just bought a 2000 audi a6 2.7t.
It runs and shifts great.
I drove it nearly 150 miles and my check engine light came on.

I had a code ran on it and po741 came up.

Is this reason for concern or is it just another sensor that needs to be fixed?
I don't have alot of money to fix it.
I called dealership and he says it nothing to worry about it.

What has anyone found out about this???

Any input is apprecaited.

well it's "Torque Converter Clutch Circ Performance or Stuck Off" if you wanted to know

I really can't tell ya much more. If the dealer says don't worry about it, then don't. They want your money and want to service your car whenever they can.

I don't agree with nm3210 --- If the dealer that told you to not worry about it is the same one you purchased the vehicle from -- you need to get a second and third opinion quickly.

If I'm remember corectly the torque converter is not locking up - it is either a mechanical or electrical problem.

I had a 528i with the same issue a few years back. The lock-up worked just fine, but it must have taken a bit longer than the controller wanted so it threw up the flag. ODB2 considers the lock-up to be essential to maintaining your emissions so it will turn on the idiot light. In NC this is an inspection failure so I would reset the light and drive in 'Sport' mode for a day or two to restore the readiness codes and get inspected. Sport on the BMW meant no lock-up clutch so no fault code. Other than the light being a constant annoyance, it worked fine and a replacement solenoid couldn't be justified.

On the other hand, if your lock-up isn't working you might have a case to spend the money to have it fixed - they really do help gas mileage.

The 4.2 A6s had this problem a lot more than the 2.7ts. The reason the dealer told you not to worry about it is probably because if it still drives fine than it is not worth the money to repair it. The only way to get rid of that code is to get a new torque convertor which will get real pricey.

Common issue as turbos and leaks.

Default 2004 A6 2.7T Quattro P0741 Code

I just checked my codes (Had the MIL Ck. Engine lit up) Codes all cancelled ok Went to www.iequus.com to look up the code P0741 and was given "Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit Performance or Stuck Off"
Is there a way to check the solenoid and change/fix same without having to go to a transmission shop?
This seems to be an electrical issue and possibly a broken wire or bad connection or ground.
Anyone have any thing to help on this?

P0741 is the generic OBD2 code.
There is VAG specific code, coming first.
17125 - is this one you have?
