Default CONTEST!!! How may faults have you had with you A6?

We are all in the same boat here we drive an Audi and they brake and spend more time in the shop than on the road. So lets see who has had the most faults and in how many miles of driving. Also say what millage was on the car when you bought it and what type of care the car has received.

So here we go this is me, Model 2000, 2.7T Quattro. Bought at 73,000 miles now at 84,000. I have had the car regularly serviced while I have had it

1. Prop shaft seal leaked, needed to be replaced.
2. Coolant tank cracked replaced.
3. Rear view mirror self dimming mirror leaked needed to be replaced.
4. Clock spring (aka self canceling ring) making a scraping noise lubricated.
5. New tiers as the ones on the car were warn, (maintenance only but still $700 for 5)
6. Countless alignments to try and correct a pull one way or the other.
7. ABS Control module failed needed to be reconditioned/replaced.
8. Window regulator left the window stuck down in the rain, required replacing.
9. Radio will not tune scan/seek in hot or humid conditions.
10. Driver and passenger seat rock and creek constantly when driving
11. Window safety switch stopped working cutting out the rear window switches.
12. High pressure line on the power steering beginning to leak needs to be replaced.
13. Rear engine main seal leaking will need to be replaced.
14. Dashboard center display missing pixels and fades in hot conditions.
15. Rotors required replacing as a result of warping due to a lack of ventilation.
16. strange vacuum sounding noise when braking hard and the ABS cuts in (cause to be determined)
17. Drivers door lock sticks in heat, possibly locking the driver in or out of the car.
18. Lower front control arms replaced.
19. Potential upper oil pan gasket leak.

So I am on 19 faults and counting, all in 2 years of ownership and 10K miles. I am convinced that my car is dirty rotten lemon!!! Show me that I am not suffering alone here, how are you getting along?

Sympathy given to the ones with the strangest and highest numbers of faults.

This is not a contest I want to win. Purchased in 2005 with 37k and now have almost 144k. Not including maintenance items (like TB, brakes and rotors), which do not count as repairs...

1-front prop shaft seal (warranty; 49,820)
2-alternator (70,504)
3-clutch and flywheel (88,996)
4-auxiliary water pump (88,996) - found when doing clutch

Everything else is original. I do have an occasionally sticking rear window. I also just purchased the third set of Pirelli P6 FourSeasons, getting 49,923 miles out of the second set (which I also purchased). Had the car aligned for the second time as well. Did I mention I had one brake-light bulb fail. Reliability sucks.

I'll play along -

Have had the car 2 months and 1500 miles.

Replaced bad oil pressure sensor (actually failed DURING my test drive)
Replaced transmission range sensor - still acts up, but maybe once week instead of once/twice day
Have a strange droning noise around 1500rpm w/ A/C on - can't figure it out
Same center screen fade w/ hot weather

According to VAG-Com, I have a ton of "intermittent" issues - speakers grounding, door locks that don't work, etc, but I haven't experienced any of these yet - they're not old codes either b/c I cleared codes right after I bought the car. Oh well....

heh, bought mine @ 130k. Carfax says front suspension 'looked at; @ 27k miles. All other regular maintenance done. At 137k now, and needs front struts and CEL is on for 'EGR Low Flow'.

I disagree with 'in the shop more than on the road'.

Well potential problems shouldn't be called "faults"
Mechanical issues would be a better name for this thread.
A "potential upper oil pan leak" really isn't a fault, its a mechanical issue.

I apologize, its just a pet peeve of mine. LOL.

Fun thread.

I purchased mine 8 1/2 months back at 151,620 miles. Currently at 153,703.
Everything I did on the car pretty much revolves around the 153,000 mark. Some things didn't really need to be replaced, but what the heck...

- Timing Belt, Ribbed Belt, Water Pump, T-stat, camshaft seals + plug
- CTS + Temp Sender (the gauge on the dash board wasn't getting past the first mark)
- Spark Plugs, Wires, O2 sensors
- Intake manifold gaskets; exhaust manifold gaskets
- Head gaskets; Valley Pan Gasket
- Throttle Body gasket
- Both coolant pipe O-ring gaskets in the back of WP housing and T-stat housing (this one was leaking on top of the Valley pan cover)
- Both O-ring coolant pipe gaskets in the rear of the cyl heads
- Replaced broken coolant tank
- Front driver side window regulator (broken plastic guides)
- Repaired the broken arms connecting the rain drain crossmember to the sunroof
- Unclogged the sunroof drains (were not clogged)
- Ignition Switch (was not springing back to ON after start)
- Replaced all 4 broken reading light housings over the doors
- Replaced and McGuyvered the Sunroof/Dome Light switch plate (or cover)
- Replaced both broken C-Pillar plastic covers
- Installed pollen filter, which was missing
- 4 new tires ContisPremierContact - $ 289 including Road Hazard free replacement (tires-easy.com) and shipping
- Replaced both CV axles (one had torn boot) + wheel hubs + wheel bearings

* I still need to fix the back-up lights.

I still maintain there is a difference between FAULTS (problems, broke stuff) and MAINTENANCE. Maintenance is normal and expected and no fault of Audi. That includes new tires, timing belt work, replacing the pollen filter, etc. My wife's Mercury Milan has a pollen filter that has to be changed periodically.

Faults are things that should last a long time but fail. Broken coolant tanks, window regulators, CV joints, transmissions, etc.

Heck, if you're listing maintenance items as faults, then I get to add the 10 oil/filter changes I've done since I owned the car.
