Default Could be a new Audi Owner but need help

Hey guys.

My name is Justin, and I'm from Louisiana. I have been looking for a work car for quite some time, and today I happened upon a 2000 Audi A6. But, the car has an issue, and I need your opinions.

The guy claims the car ran fine, but he loaded it onto a trailer, and when he got it home the car wouldn't go into gear. "You can go through all the gears, but as soon as you let off the break, the break light comes on"

He told me that if I wanted it, I would need a trailer with a winch. "you can't push the car, its locked into park"

I don't know enough about these kinds of cars to merit a decision here. But what I can tell you is, he wants 1000.00 for the car, title in hand. IT has 158k on the engine.

I want to know what you guys think is wrong with it. Because if you think its the transmission, I'm not touching it. But if its something that can be fixed for a few hundred dollars, it would merit a purchase.

Is it throwing a check engine light? Or, can you get your hands on a vagcom scanner and check for codes.

But here is something to consider if the tranny is messed, at 1K, try to get it for less. And if you are mechanically adept enough to do a swap, you could get a tranny used from wrecker or somewhere else that is working and install it yourself.

Thats only if the engine and everything else is working nicely, or its it just going to turn into a gaping money pit.

Which motor is it? I can't really see if it has the side mounted Intercoolers to identify if it's a 2.7t or not, so I'm just going to assume it's a 2.8.

Judging from the front end damage and deployed airbags, that car likely has more than an issue, I would assume it has a ton.

I don't know what your plan for the car is, but outside of parting it out.. I wouldn't touch it.

When you're buying a project car, especially something like an older Audi.. it has to have something going for it. It's either gotta be practically free, good cosmetically or good mechanically. I see none of the above. Not judging from those photos and your description of it.

Also 1k is also too damn much, especially if it is indeed a 2.8. You can get a practically running C5 that needs a lot less TLC for $1500-$2500 if you're patient.

This is just my opinion of course. Others may see more potential in it than I can from just looking.

2001 Audi A6 Quattro for Sale

audi a6 2002 3.0l

I don't know how close those are to you, but that was just off a quick search..

If the seller of that 3.0 is being honest, and depending on what fixes they've already attempted, it's probably not that bad of a fix, could be something as silly as a bad ignition switch.
