I have an 1999 A6 Quatro, and the cruise control no longer works. I have heard this is a commmon problem, and I am hoping it has a common and easy fix. I have seen some references to a certait swtich but that is as much info as I have. Can anyone point me to some more info or do I need to take it into the shop?

 

only thing I have on that car is fuse #20 cruise controlfor automatic tranny

 

Well I will check that out because the manual has a different number and when I went to go look there was no fuse there.

 

opps my appols that was for the 1996, yours has the fuse in #5 and #11 with auto tranny

 

Manual says it should be fuse 11 but there is no fuse 11 in my car. The fuse slot has no backing so you can't even put a fuse there. I did just run a fuse tester down all the fuses though just to make sure none are out and they are all working fine.

‒→ Pull off rubber seal of plenum chamber cover in direction of arrow.
‒Detach plenum chamber cover -1- to front. [/ul]











‒→ Remove cover for electronics box in plenum chamber -arrows-. [/ul]










‒→ Use screwdriver to carefully prise off securing strap -arrow-. [/ul]











‒→ Release catch -arrows- and unplug connectors -1- and -2- of control unit. [/ul]










‒→ With ignition switched off, connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 or 1598/30 as appropriate to unplugged engine control unit connectors (not to control unit). [/ul]











‒→ With ignition switched off, connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to unplugged engine control unit connectors (not to control unit). Connect earth clip on test box (cannot be seen in Fig.) to earth. [/ul]

Activating CCS:

it looks complicated but VAG should be able to activate it ( the VAS 5051 ) is dealer diagnostic tool

 

ya i have the same problem. i have cruise control in my 2.8L v6 1998 audi a6 but it dosnt work. my manual says where the fuse is supposed to be, but theres not one there, or even the metal pins to put one into... so what do i do? dealer?

 

I had the same problem and after reseaching I figured it was probably the control unit, and it was.
I sent this little silver box ( says hella on it and it is behind the glove box ) to www.autoteck.com and they rebuilt it ( supposedly with state of the art components) for $120.00 with a 2yr warranty.
they advertise a 2-3 day turn aound but my took 2 wks due to THERE confusion.
