I've been having a knocking like sound in my right front end. It sounds like a light tapping almost like you have warped brake rotors and the pad is hitting them. Then at highway speeds, it turns into a howling sound.

I have jacked up the front end and there is no play whatsoever in the wheel bearing.

The noise does not change in frequency or pitch by turning one way or another but it does seem to almost stop for a second at highway speeds when hitting a "valley" ie. the suspension compresses for a bit.

This makes me think it could be a bad CV Axle, however I have no clicking when turning.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Worn control arms or tie rod ends (inners or outers). The howling is probably your tires due to toe out at higher speeds. The knocking is the bad part. You don't say how many miles but, on an Audi, control arms and etc. are only good until the warranty runs out!

I found it! It was a loose upper control arm at the strut tower...tightened it down and its good to go...
