CV Joint and Boot Repair Cost. Please I NEED ADVISE.
Hello everyone, it is my first time using the forum and i am a first time AUDI owner. I have a 2002 A6 2.7T.
I recently went to my local dealer for its 50 000 mile maintenance check and they told me I needed to replace a CV Joint and Boot and my center differential seal was leaking.
They quoted the prices as follows: CV Joint for 675.30 and boot for $400.30.
Center Differential Seal for $415.30
Have anyone out there paid those amounts for similar repairs? I just think it is wicked overpriced. Maybe I am wrong. I just want ADVISE. I dont wanna get ripped off. THANK YOU.

It probably depends on where you are in the country and where you are getting the work done at. I know that the dealer here in Memphis wants about $300 for the transfer seal (for my '97 A6 Avant) and $650-900 to replace CV joint/axle. If they could just repack and replace the boot it was just $325. I was able to find a drive axle shop that replaced one whole axle and repacked the other boot for $325.
Another suggestion is to find an European/German auto shop and compare their prices with the dealers. Sometimes the dealer is a good deal, but usually a lot more expensive.

The prices you quote sound pretty high. I'd suggest you find a good independent mechanic in your area. Check the appropriate regional forum here and at www.audiworld.com for recommendations for a good one in your area that other Audi fans have come to know and trust.
You may also want to check the C5 A6 forum on audiworld -- there's been a rash of CV boot failues over the last couple of months and if you do a search, you will find MANY posts on this topic listing prices other people have paid for repairs.
Good luck.
