Dash is shrinking (pics added)
I bought the car in 2001 andthe dealership factory certified it for 2 years. It was already peeling up then. When I brought it to their attention, they said it was a major job to replace. The dash would have to be removed, they said, and once that happened, there would probably be noises for the rest of the car's life. I let it go. I've taken it to 1 place and he didn't really want to touch it. I'd probably be better off just leaving it alone.
I never use any chemicals on my interior. I'm not sure if the previous owners used chemicals on the dash, but I don't think they did.
I live in south alabama, and do not have a garage. It does get pretty hot in the summertime.

Sooo, umm yeah...I spoke too soon as well!! I guess this blows for me too now!! I didn't even notice it at first sadly enough, it seems that the best thing to do is re-glue it, but it seems like taking off the windshield is the best way to get at the corners. This is a ridiculous problem, I think this should be a recall. What kinds of noises and why did they think this, do you know?

My guess is they theorized. If I would have pressed the matter, they probably would have replaced it.
I pressed the matter on a the transmission (quattro) and they replaced it.
My 98 a6 started doing that just (center dash at windshield).
I remember reading in the forum that occasionally moisture wicks in through the cabin air filter (tucked under the hood/cowling on the passenger side). Not enough moisture to collect in the foot well, just enough to soak the dash and start the curling. Might want to check the filter to avoid additional damage.[&o]

Eeesh...Keep it outta the sun. I hear the only way to fix something like that is to get the entire thing replaceed, but I'm sure with some homework, you can find a better alternative. Check your phonebook for some sort of specialists and have them take a look at it.
Yeah, It is definitely the heat. I bought a Florida car with the same problem. The upholstery shop said "no glue that they have will hold it down. The dash is shrinking." I resolved to make some aluminum c channel for the ends that will slip in by the a pillar and hold it in place. I figured I could anodize them the same color as the aluminum by the vents. With the headliner needing replacement, I have not started this problem yet as it is the least of my problems. (you all know that there is always something to fix!)
As far as the center, I would try to put some kind of edging around it. I don't have that problem, so I haven't thought it out yet.
I will send pics when I do get to it!

After further review, the part that is shrinking is not separate from the dash. The top cover portion is connected seamlessly to the rest of the dash. Sorta like a flap.
The condition now is worse than when the pics were taken.
I like the C channel idea.
That could look pretty cool.
With the windshield removed, it would probably be an easy fix.
I should put some fitted **** carpet up there and call it a day.
All you guys would be so jealous.
