Difficulty Starting A6 2.8 Quattro with 85k
Hi Everybody,
This is my first time on the forum. I live in the city of SF and I bought the audi with 66k miles from a dealer that didn't do anything right. I know because i used to sell these cars. Anyway I have made it my mission to get the vehicle in optimal shape. This of course included replacing the water pump, timing, serpentine belt, front and rear brakes, ABS control module, fuel filter, plugs (during 75k major service). Anyhow, the gauges all read normal, but it seized up when I was driving today a couple of times. In fact the RPMs sticking up above 2000. I pulled over and stopped it and tried a restart, it was turning over but wouldn't catch for a long time, i was killing the battery so i left it alone for about 5 minutes. Then I tried again and it finally caught after a brief initial weak sounding ignition. It has started alright on several other attempts and seems to be okay. The check engine light was coming on and going off a couple of times for no reason i could figure out. In general the power is decent but seems a little down perhaps. Any similiar problems for you other owners and what have you done? Thanks for reading. JK

You need to have the errors read using a VAG-COM, or a dealer, or even an AutoZone with an OBDII reader. My first guess would be a MAF failure, or possibly even a blockage in the air intake.
