Default Diverted Valves

Ok.. since I'm new here I can look ridiculous. [sm=lame.gif]
Why change the Diverted Valves ?
In what way it saves the turbos ?...

Can anyone explain everything for me ?

I know why blow-off valves are no good for 2.7T but still don't know why you guys change the DVs...

Thanks for the input [8D]

I changed mine out because the stock DVs only held 8psi max. I chipped my car and wanted the boost to be able to hold on at 18psi. Someone also told me that replacing the stock DVs can help smooth out power delivery.

The stock diverter valves go bad, even if you don't chip the car. An easy solution (that I went with) is to get the bosch 710N diverter valves. They are about $40 per dv. They are a bit of a pain to swap out, but a definite DIY. There are some write ups for how-to on audiworld.com.

Stock ones, even under stock boost, can stick. This causes the pressure in the line to be pushed back into the turbo. Also known as compressor surge. Nogood for your turbos.

Why ?
It delivers the air through the air filter... just like bigger flow... no ?

I think what he means is that when they stick and you're off the throttle the turbos are still compressing air but the engine doesn't want it. Instead of the DV diverting the excess back into the Airbox it just keeps building between the turbos and the DV causing the turbo to work harder and wear out faster.

I got my DVs from here: http://shop.achtuning.com/index.asp?...amp;ProdID=586

Sorry to bring this topic back from the dead, but does anyone know what boost levels the bosch 710N diverter valves allow you to achieve? Are they similar to stock or are they stock? Maybe better than stock? I read that there for the Audi TT w/ 225 HP.

Let me simplify my questions with a fill in the blank.

1.) The bosch 710N diverter valves allows boost pressure of_____________.

2.)A stock "01 A6 2.7t allows boost pressure of__________?

3.)

Thanks for the lesson guys. I'm considering changing the valves as a pre-cautionary measure and like anyone else, picking up some extra ponies in doing so, is fine by me.

My ride is stock and i do not need any unessecary expenses right now.

Stock boost is 8psi. The DV's are good to like 10 but even under 8 they'll wear out eventually.

Yes you can upgrade to TT DV's, reason being, a TT uses one DV, a 2.7t uses one for each turbo.

I'm not sure of the exact pressure rating of the 710's but enough that you don't have to worry. Even heavily modded.
