Question Do all A6 come with HID?

Hey guys this is a really noobish question but I was wondering if all 2002 a6 comes with hid build in from the factory? one of my headlights bulb been out for awhile and I been wanting to replace it and when I went to my mechanic he told me that I need to get Hid (d2s) bulbs for about $150 a piece. So I was thinking the guy was trying to rip me off and I tried replacing it myself but when I took out the bulb and it turns out to be a H7 12v 55w bulb. Now I'm really confused as to what I should get as a replacement. HID or regular halogen?
Thanks all

i am not sure about 2002 but what you may be like mine .. lo beams are HD .. high beams are halogen .. are sure you are checking the right bulb ? When you turn your lights on if they change colour slightly when they warm up they are HID .. usually blueish to a more white ..

I'm pretty sure the high beams are halogen. But lo beams I have no clue... it doesn't seem like there is a color change when I turn on the highlights but the car did come with projector headlamps. I was thinking why would they put in projectors if the car didn't come with HIDs. I think I'll have to check the bulbs again to be sure. Btw can HID use regular halogen bulbs too or would that not work?

HID and halogen bulbs are not interchangable --

You need a trip to Auto Zone to read their bulb selection chart.
Or you can do a search on the internet.

you could always go to your Audi dealer parts counter and have him run your vin. He will be able to tell you if you are unsure.

2002 had options for HID and halogen. They are both projector style lamp housing, so that probably is the reason that some people are confused. If you check the lamp, then it is the sure bet. Also if you see a big rectangular box stuck on the bottom of the lamp housing, then you have HID.

Another easy way to tell .. if you give the dealer your VIN and you nearly pass out when he tells you the cost of a replacement bulb .. you have HID

Heh, just checked with the dealer, nearly sh*t my pants when he told me the price for HID replacement bulbs ($200 for a single bulb)... now I'm kind of glad that I don't have HIDs lol. Still prefer the look of a HIDs though, guess it's time to get a aftermarket HID conversion kit!
