Does an 96 A6 have a trip computer?
I wanted to know if my 96 has a trip computer. I have the wrong owners manual ( I have one for a 96 A4) and read that the A4's have a trip computer, but cant find it in my car where it says it is on the A4.
I would hope it does being that the A6 is a larger more expensive model than then A4.

I don't think so... (I'm assuming you mean the trip computer and not the trip odometer)
Here's the info from the model guide:
INSTUMENTATION
• Backlit instrument cluster with addition gauges (oil temperature, oil pressure, coolant temperature), red illumination
• Tachometer and electric speedometer
• Analog clock
• Active Auto check system
• Outside temperature gauge (separate)
• Trip odometer
• Intermittent wiper mode

Why the hell then would the A4 have a trip computer and not the A6, this is very disapointing. The fact being that the A6 cost's more than an A4 and the A4 has this.
I am talking about a trip computer not the odometer. Oh and when you say intermident wipers what does that have to do with instramentation.

Hey! Don't shoot the messenger. The text I gave you came from the model guide -- I didn't compose it.
What year A4 are you talking about? The A6 got the trip computer when they changed the body style in 98.

It may depend on the model spec.
All of mine have a trip computer with distance to empty, avg speed, avg fuel consumption, time driven.
The box is in the centre lower half of the instrument panel.
The switches are on the wiper control stalk.
(The 100s have a rocker switch in the center switch console)

If your 95 has the trip computer (exactly what you described), I would imagine the 96 would have to have it. My statement of "no, it does not" was inferred from the info I got out of the model guide -- not going out to the driveway like you can.
Sounds like quattromond may be in luck after all.

What is more it is a fairly standard VAG item. VW Passats and Golfs have a similar set up.
All of mine are (were) high specced for their time when new. Quattros tend to have SE equipment levels.
That said I cannot find a rehostat switch to dim the instrument lighting so perhaps mysteries like this are part of the joy of drivivng an Audi?

SouthboroAudiGuy, im not shooting at you or the messinger guide those comments have nothing to do with the link's you gave me.
I guess you can say im shooting the A4's owners manual. I have an 1996 A4 ownwrs manual in stead of a 96 A6 ownwers manual and thats where I have read that the A4's have the trip computer. It says that the A4's have the controls on the wiper stalk and well my A6 does'not have them there so I can't find them if it does.
