Default Emission control light is on

I have noticed that the Emission Control light is on. The manual says to take car to Audi Dealer. Is this something to be concerned about and should I stop driving the car. Is it something I can check out myself?

The check engine light? take it to auto zone or advance auto and have them scan the car for a code. write the code down and look it up at Category:Fault Codes - Ross-Tech Wiki.

or post the code with its meaning here and we can help

Go on ebay and search vag-com. buy some cheapo cables ~10-20 dollars and the software is free.
