Can anyone tell me if it is common for a brief (1 second) engine noise on initial start up of a 2006 A6 3.2? My range rover made the same noise. I know its due to oil having to have time to make it to the engine but is the normal on an A6? The dealer told me it was due to sitting for a while?

Also, there are noises coming from the front end of the car when turning that went away after I test drove it. Could this be from sitting as well?

Finally, who is the guy that can run a service history for me? Thanks.

 

The chattering noise at start up is normal. As you said, it takes oil to get up to the cam chain tensioners.

 

The newer Jettas (4yrs >) are also notorius for the startup chattering noise.
An Audi dealer can run a service history for you.
