Fan Replacement?

Fan Replacement?
On my 2000 A6 2.7T, I was stuck in traffic in 90+ heat and my AC stopped working. I noticed the temp gauge was rising. I checked later and it seems like the fan in front of the radiator is not working.
Is this fan easy to replace, or should I just find a decent mechanic? I'm new to the NYC area, so any recommendations would be helpful. Although, I wouldnt mind doing it myself if not too complex.
Also, would vag-com have caught this? I need to dig my vag-com out of storage...
Thanks

RE: Fan Replacement?
Which fan does not work? Ellectric one? Or mechanic?
I think both of them are behind the radiator (between radiator and engine). Ellectric fan should work regardless of the AC when hot, you should check the temp sensor and wiring to make asure it operates on both speeds.
Mechanic fan works all the time driven by the engine.
To replace ellectric one you'll probably have to remove lock carrier which takes time!
Mechanic you can get off without removing anything you just need an open end thin 32mm key.
I always DIY everything, so it's up to you what to do. As I already said, I doubt the fan just died, make sure you check other things before you take everything apart or pay money for someone else to do that.

RE: Fan Replacement?
I assumed its the electric one since it's supposed to turn on when the car is idling with the AC on (or just hot). I thought its the fan directly in front of the radiator, just behind the front grill.
What else should I be checking?
