Few A6 4.2 Questions
Hey fellas - First post. 2001 A6 Avant Quattro 4.2. I'll post pics from Germany if anyone is interested. Particularly of me going 250 KPH legally....
Anyway, few questions if ya don't mind....
Anyone have the rear auto-leveling suspension? I was wondering how to stiffen it up but keep the auto-level feature. I have just ordered front springs to bring the front end down a bit (these sit low in the rear IMO) and hopefully stiffen the front - but the rear is electric-airbag controlled, no coils to replace there.
I have seen many control-arm questions on the Forum. I had the two pass upper ones replaced, others are at 70K miles, original. I cannot seem to get a shimmy out of the car - two different sets of wheels and tires, same result. Could it be the control arms? They all got the OK from the dealer earlier, but I'm doubting them now as this shaking won't go away. No, it's not the rotors. Just an 'entire-car' shake as in imbalanced tires, but I've basically ruled that out.
I sure wish I had the 3rd row rear seat - maybe I can find a used one somewhere around here.
I also need to get the dash vent out and fix where the side/side vanes meet the control, they are broken. Does it snap out easily?
I saw the thread on the sanding of the shifter console, I'll be doing that sometime soon also. And, my door handle sticks as some have indicated. I'll pull the panel off and see what I can do, I'll post back if I get the answer.
We had no snow this winter so I didn't get to check out the AWD but I'm sure it will rock when we go south this coming Winter.
Take care,
Smash
