i'm looking to get a 2004 A6 3.0

which has less torque steer?
which would be more reliable?
is steering the same in both until you get on the gas in the corner?

Quattro less torque steer, FWD more reliable, Quattro handles better.

 

depends on if you have harsh winters. i love my quattro, id never go back to fwd

 

FWD is AWESOME.... for driving in to a river or off a cliff

Any time you add more drive components, it becomes less reliable, more things to break

 

The only extra problems you would get with awd is rear cv boots, other than that I think the system is pretty reliable. Its been around for a long as$ time! With quattro ans the 3.0, it will never break a tire loose on dry pavemant, but it will suck some performance and mpgs. To me, the Quattro is way worth it.!

what are the minimal conditions for this to occur
basicly, when my girl or i are commuting, no matter the weather conditons, i want us to have full control of the road. i wont be racing nor offroading, and certainly not modding the car for any performance nor the like. normal driving with 2-3 roadtrips per month

 

Im just sayin, with the FWD car, if you floored it from a stop, it would spin a bit. With the quattro, it wont. I can go around a corner WOT in the rain (not smart but the car could do it) and not spin a tire(loose traction). If you are in a climate with snow, or will be driving somewhere with snow, get Quattro, you will thank your self over and over. And with my 2.8, driving a steady 65, will return me 29mpg on a highway trip. At 70, its more like 26, and goes down from there to my spirited hwy trip, about 95-115, still got ~21, so it will still get good milage with quattro. In snow, I wanted to see what my car could do. Fresh powder in my neighborhood(about 5 inches), 12pm coming home, stopped on the big hill, has a 5% grade, from a dead stop, foot on the floor, rpms ran up to about 5.5K, started to grab and took off, it wont get stuck, and my 01 does not have any of the traction control stuff, but I have some semperit sport grip winter tires that help a bit. Quattro is a must, I dont think I will ever be with out a Quattro car in my garage... Ever!

And to answer your original question, the Quattro system is baisically transparent, it does its job making sure you have the best traction in all situations while you drive. IMHO, I think you should find one with Quattro, If for nothing else, at least for resale value, FWD Audis are really bad. Theres someone on this forum whos sig is "An Audi without Quattro is just a volkswagen." Not completely true, but it gets the point across.

i thought it was meant like, people taking corners hard and losing wheels or tires lololol
i race $4kUS gas powered r/c cars semi professionally, and this actually happens
