yeah really its labor that kills especially if u go to an Audi Dealer. Because of where the timing belt is located. I actually did mine in my High School. It took me nearly a week because of the limited time i was allowed to be in there and work. It was sweet tho cause i saved money and now i can just skip that class cause my TB job was so advance the teacher is giving me an A+ for the year

For anyone in the NC triad area I know a guy that is the best audi/vw guy ive found and he is really cheap! I am a used car dealer and specialize in german cars. Last timing belt job I had him do was on a 99 A6 2.8, timing belt, water pump, both tensioners for $675. He cuts me a little slack since I bring him cars pretty often but he is cheap and usually pretty fast and a nice guy too. His shop is automotive connections off of lee st in greensboro, nc. If anyone wants his number or more info I can give it to you....

yeah for NY pretty cheap for dealer, and they have pretty good review also.
and I found out my buddy he drive Q7 he bought his there too and happy with service.
I was kinda surprised when I asked how much is the timing belt job
they said
1350 all included water pump also. it's package deal
I was expecting them to say "well... it will be probably around 1600 to 2000+"....
so I said well it's close to my office, can get it done in one day, so drop it off in the morning, pick up after work, or maybe pick up next day.

Dang I got everything you got done rock, but I only paid a little under 900 for mine, it was like 890 or something. I must just be spoiled... lol
Just curious as to where you had the work done. I am in the West Metro area of Minneapolis, a little ways from you but that is an awefully good price.

Thanks,

Larry

1350 is dirt cheap anywhere in the country, make sure they do the thermostat when they are in there too, not all dealers will sell that so they can nail you for it twice.
Oh yes you are quite right about that one!!! When i bought my 2000 4.2 in Feb, I knew there would be some things to fix. Well in May I had to replace the thermostat. When my guy got in there, he found that the water pump had already been replaced by the previous owner but thethermostat was original....can you believe that??? Regardless, I bought a new WP, thermostat, TB and all pulleys at AZAutoHaus and he installed everything in about 7 hours. Total cost including parts? $800.
