Cool Got My Double DIN

So I ordered a dash kit for my a6 last week and when it got here I shocked at how huge the opening was compared to my head unit. MY Eclipse has a protruding face which is slightly smaller the the body of the HU. The dash kit opening was slightly larger than the body of the HU... soooo..... if I wanted the face flush with the dash, I ended up with a 1/2" gap all the way around. [headbang]

Solution? I cut out and fit some 1/4" ply to my desired gapping (after using all my power to get the unit deep enough in the dash ). Then I bondo'd that bad boy in, sanded and painted for the outcome below!!

Who says nothing looks better than stock?!

Used to have Symphony. Everything has been gutted and replaced with eclipse amps and sub w/ infinity door speakers.

Meh still like my RNS-D better. Why can't you make a faceplate that will be seamless and replace the faceplate on the headunit?

To answer your question, the head unit face motorizes down to expose two cd/dvd slots (Map & AV discs).

RNS-D doesn't offer as many options or have as big a screen as this and doesn't look as good either IMO. And it's sound qual is no where near the ballpark when it comes to Eclipse.

Ohhh I see, I guess that makes sense then. Do the AVIC head units do the same then?

The Avic-D line does not but the Avic-Z line does.

What year is your car? What is that to the left of your hazards? Mine has the ESP button there.
