Default Hazard Relay

My relay has 9 pins # 4B0 941 509 C
The replacement has 10 pins # 4B0 941 509 K
My harness has a blank where the 10th pin would go so it seems it should work anyway.
When I put the new one (10 pin) in and start the car I hear a sound like small electrical arching.
The problem was intermittent blinker noise, no buzzing noise before replacement. I put the old one back and the arching noise goes away but the ongoing blinker noise is still there.
Any thougths?

IIRC from replacing my flasher a few months back, K is the current one and is ok to use. I think I had a 9 pin originally and now have a 10 pin unit. You probably can't even buy the 9 pin models anymore. Connect your new unit, but don't install it all the way in the dash and try it. Do you hear arching in the relay itself? You may have a bad relay.
