My guess is the difference could be in the length ?

It is not clear what exactly happened?

Some details could be useful..

 

NAPA boxed the axles wrong ....... they boxed an automatic axle in a manual box. Difference is the way the bolt into the tranny. Auto/Tiptronics hace a closed out cv joint like the one in the pic I posted on AW the manuals have an open end which needs to be packed with grease as seen here

just an FYI in case anyone else was wondering

 

The front inner CV joint of the automatic has a tripoid joint, instead of the one used on manual transmissions. The CV boots are different. There are pictures of these parts at www.AudiCarParts.com . The inner manual CV joint requires a gasket at the flange. The front inner tripoid CV joint has no gasket.
