Default Help with blinking MIL

Driving to work this morningmy2001 A6 with the 2.7T, tip trans and92000 miles started a rough idle and the MIL started blinking. The car is way down on power and is running rough; when I finally got it home and hooked up toa scanner I received cod P0305 (misfire on cyl 5). I pulled the coil pack and the spark plug which looked fine and then moved the coil pack to another cylinder and cleared code, the same code came back, it did not follow the coil pack. I wanted to make sure that I moved the correct coil pack so I moved each one back a spot and then the rear most on each bank to the front.

I thought the blinking MIL meant an emissions problem i.e. catalytic converter but the code has me confused. What are the chances that it is a bad cat and the code is erroneous?

Thanks in advance.

Try swapping the power output stages. There are two, located on top of the air filter box. One has brown connectors, the other has black connectors. If the problem changes cylinder banks, that's your problem.

Be prepared, they're expensive little buggers, for what they are. Sometimes you can pick one up for a reasonable price on E-Bay.

Alrighty, I swapped them and it moved to Cyl 2, so it looks like they could be the problem. You Da Man!!!

So I am guessing that these are not available at Autozone? Is it a dealership only deal?

Thanks

Pretty mucha dealer only item if you need it today. I beliefve thy're over $200. You could save a few bucks if you can buy one online. You might also search for the part number on eBay. I picked up an afetermarket version for my son's A4 (similar, but for 4 cylinder) for ~$70.

Good luck!
