Hi people. Just registered as I have a problem with my A6. Its a 99 2.4 se with multi tronic gearbox. What is happening is, sometimes (most of the time) when I put the car in 'park' it does not show on the dash that it is in park. Also noticed it will not show up 'Neutral' either. Only the lights for drive and reverse work. On the shifter itself, all the lights work in their various positions. When the park light does not show on the dash it wont let the car start.. This does not happen all of the time. It can run fine for a few days, then it happens again. Anyone out there experianced the same thing? Easy to fix or is it a big (read, expensive)problem?

 

My Volvo 850 had a problem simular to yours. Mine was a micro switch in the shifter itself. It was not reliably telling the cars computer what gear I was in. Maybe someone on this board will know what it is called and the part number. My switch was less than 50 bucks and would have been easy to change. I never did fix it since the car had 313k on it and N still worked to start the car.
