Default High current draw when ignition is off, drains battery.

Car:
02/03 Audi A6 Avant (4B, C5) 1.8 T quattro manual trans.

Problem:
Battery goes flat over night.

Findings:
  • Battery voltage at rest, charged: 12.6V
  • Alternator Charging voltage: 14.2V
  • Current draw (measured via negative battery cable to negative battery terminal) when ignition is off: More than 2A.
  • Excess current draw ceases when fuses 15 (Kombigerat, Klimaanlage) and 37 (Telefon, Radio) are pulled.
  • When ONLY fuse 15 is pulled, the current increases is a pulsing manner, almost like when engaging the turn signal.I don't know if this is normal behaviour.

This list of fault codes looks frightening, but the information panel between the odometer and speedometer says OK. So to the unknowingly, everything seems OK.

Thumbs up

Follow-up post:
I ended up purchasing a new battery, which I installed 13th of May 2013. I deleted old fault codes and started using the car as normal. After this I have not been able to reproduce the problems as described above. Problem solved, actually. I would never have believed that an old battery would cause these kind of problems, but it seems like this actually was the case. In the future I will be less reluctant to buy a new battery when the car fails with similar symptoms...

I had the same thing happen with my 1998 A6 2.8 30v. The battery was draining, tested ok. I thought it might be the hood switch, but then left it at auto parts store for a day to drain and trickle charge, it tested bad. Replaced battery, no further problems.

the same thing keeps happening to my battery it drains over night when the radio fuse is in. I got the battery tested yesterday and they said the battery was good but this morning I went to crank the car to go to work and the car would not start
