How reliable are used A6?
I am thinking of getting an Audi A6 around 1999-2001. Just how reliable are they, I heard a lot of mixed things. Some people say they are good, some people say they start to fall apart as soon as you take it off a dealership. I'll be buying it from a dealer auction that means I can get A6 1999-2001 with 50L-70K for around $12K-14K for that money I can also get Nissan Altima 2004 with 20-30K (obviously these cars arent in the same class but still). So as owners, what do you think? Also how is the maintanance on these cars, my dad owns a Benz ML-320 and it costed him $100 to do a oil change at the mers dealer. I cant really say I trust regular mechanics, especailly with expansive cars as I took my Dodge Interepid to one to get a water pump changed and what do you know next day my AC stops working... Anyways let me know what you guys think of A6. Thanks!
My used A6 has been great - but I also don't have 50-70K miles on it. I bought at 36K and now have roughly 41k. I had a tail shaft (back part of the tranny) replaced under warranty and that is really it !!! Everything is working well and the car is very tight - no rattles, shakes, etc...
Good luck.
Good luck.
I JUST bought a 2000 A6 with even more miles on it (98k), not sure how it's going to run, i will give it a couple months.
However, I am planning to bring it to a dealer for inspection. So far the car drives great and I love it more and more!
Good luck with your purchase!

I own a 2001 2.7T A6 with 50k - I love my car. I bought it used with about 41k. No problems at this point. It is a pleasure to drive. I would recommend the A6 to anyone. I love the twin turbo's. Before this car I drove a 2.8 and didn't like it much. But the 2.7 - now that's an awesome machine!
Good luck!

Just bought the car a couple months ago... I just replaced the water pump, the coolant was leaking, the ashtray didnt come out, the driver tail light lens was cracked... i got all this replaced under warranty i only paid 50 bucks. The car has currently 55K on it.
I would say it depends on the car. I bought mine with about 65k. I now have 105k. Still going strong, few things I had to do. Replace Oil seals inthe rear, they were leaking. The seals for the after coolers were leaking real bad. I did the Timing belt at 80k, prev owner said he did it but I never trust what people say. MAF sensor went bad threw CE light. Recipts total about $3k for all that work over the past 2 years. Also had CV boots replaced at 80k. This is pretty much normal maintance stuff though. After all that, good as new. I think the A6 2.7T is the most perfect car in the world. It's an S4 with more room
. Just did a few mods, under drive pulley, recirc valves and 18x8.5 wheels, 1.5" drop in front 1.3 in rear on Eibachs . I love this car.
