Default I Love Check Engine Lights!!!

[:'(] Of course I really dont..hehe
Ok, so i checked my oil last week and noticed that it was about 1/3 low. I forgot to buy some oil to replenish the little bit that was gone. I didn't notice any leaks and figure that the car has burned a little bit ( have seen no smoke). I bought some oil and filled her up to specs. Two days later the damn light goes out on the dash. I figure this is good, but am curious as to why?? So my question is, would the check engine light come on becasue the oil was a bit low? Seems like a rational assumption but I need to make sure because I had a dream I was driving on the freeway and my engine exploded and everybody died. Wierd and stupid but now I cant stop thinking about it. Oh yeah, and of course my AUDI dealership says bring it in, which is code for, "We want your money for doing something easy"..hehe[8D] Where can I guy pick up a VAG-CODE device to check himself? My experience in the past with these cars is that when the light comes on, it stays on until it is cleared by the diagnostic machine. Am I right? Whaddya think guys?

your ok mate the oil light will set the CEL on because anything that threatens the engine like lack of low oil/coolant will tell the computer

On my 03 2.7t the check engine light came on for the torque converter came on. Took it in, it was cleared and appointment set. Light came back on within 10 miles. 20 Miles later light never came back on. Still had torque converter replaced.

C'mon... You have to learn to love the check engine light. I don't know what I would do without mine? It's great at kitchen time with all the lights and all.

the oil/coolant warnings go directly to the cluster and have nothing to do with the engine control module. you have a code for something else.
