Instant Overheating
I have a "Hot" problem. I have a 2004 A6 4.2L. Last ThursdayI was driving and running my mouth on the "Cellular Death-Trap w/hands-free", when all of a sudden I see the "Flashing" thermo warning in the dash console, and I didn't hear the audible, because of my "Fly-trap" und die radio! To make a long nightmare, painless[:@].
Anyone with input, as towhat may have caused this "Steer-Shiza", please do share. I lost a hose and the expansion tank looks done. It will turn-over, but shoots straight to "Hot".
Thank you in advance[&o]

RE: Instant Overheating
Don't confuse an over temp issue with low fluid. When the resovoir gets low an icon that looks like a thermometer shows up on the dash. The temp gage tells you the temp. If you have low antifreeze the icon shows up immediatly.

RE: Instant Overheating
You're looking for the cause of the overheat in the first place. Its the overheating that blew the hose and tank.
Sooo, its either a clogged system somewhere (usually the radiator) or a stuck thermostat. The thermostat is most likely but does take either 5 hours of your time (and 20 bucks in parts) or a gob of money for a shop to replace. The radiator is unlikely expecially given the time frame in which it started overheating but possible.
Now when you've let it sit for a good long time and then turn it on how fast does it overheat? How does it sound when its running? Anything odd out of the exhaust?
