Just bought an A6...service light is on. Help.
I just purchased a 2005 A6 4.2 and the service light came on. I looked through the CHECK index and it listed like three things in red, one of them being Brake malfunction, and some other fluid icons. My question is, is any of this covered under warranty? I'm assuming the Brake light should be? I still have 4 months left on the original warranty.
I'm kinda' worried about driving the car. The car didn't give me the three beeps to indicate danger, but it's still bothering me to see these icons displayed. Is this just general maintenance stuff and I can relax? Or is it more important than that? Does the dealer charge for a diagnostic test to tell me what needs to be done?

Yeah, that and the word "SERVICE" also appears on the red screen in the dashboard when you start the car. I looked through the CHECK option and saw the stuff listed above. I also noticed that the last time the car was serviced was 9000 miles ago, which would be the 35k mile mark. I'm assuming that the car is just really past due for its 35k maintenance?
Edit: Since I have a 2005 with some warranty intact, this should be covered by the dealer, right?

Anyone know how to reset it with the generic vagcom?

Does the C6 use sythetic oil and the oil change interval is 10,000 miles?

But what about the brake indicator symbol? And because it's an 05, this maintenance is covered right?

The C6 does use synthetic oil. While the car is set up for 5,000 mile service reminders, the free maintenance only covers 10,000 mile intervals. I think AOA is just cheaping out on the oil changes. Since I bought my 05 4 years ago I have stuck with 5,000 mile synthetic oil changes at the dealer. I am sure that most of the cars purchased off lease had only the 10,000 mile changes.
